Tonight on the way home from he gymnastics program, as we pulled up to a red light, Suzie pointed out the window. at some big bright purple thistles growing wild along the side of the road...
"Hey Daddy...look at the flowers?"
"yeah....they sure are pretty."
"Daddy...who planted them?"
(sidebar....for her to initiate a conversation, and to ask these kind of questions is HUGE...)
"I don't know Suzie...who do you think planted them."
"I think God did."
And then she drifted off to a song from the Christmas musical two years ago. Which left me time to think.
(second sidebar...it had been a pretty cruddy day...mostly around getting a fax in the middle of the afternoon saying "unless we get some crazy detail information by the end of the day tomorrow...you're family's health care is terminated...I just get the sense that our good friends at BCBS are not terribly interested in keeping a self-employed family with a child with significant challenges...but that's just me...)
And so with all of that weighing on my head...Suzie points out the flowers.
Which leads me back to scripture, and a promise from Jesus...(chapter 5 of Matthew - The Message)
"...walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers...If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers - most of which are never seen - don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you...?"
Thanks Suzie...for showing me those flowers.
