Two different "moments" just a couple of hours apart...
6:00 pm - eating dinner at a beach side hot dog stand. We meet a family with an eight year old boy in a wheel chair. Turns out that he, like our Suzie, had bacterial meningitis when he was little and has many similar struggles. It was so sweet seeing them interact and laugh, oblivious to all the clamor.
His parents and the beautiful bride and I went the normal "who's your doctor, what type of meds..." road that is reassuring and challenging at the same time.
Still all in all, a very cool time.
8:30 pm - getting out of the car at a beach side ice cream place. A car (without a sticker or tag) had just pulled into the sole handicapped spot so we parked a little further out and walked in. No big deal.
Until I saw the idiot get out of the passenger side of the car, point out the handicapped sign to his friends in the car.
As he moved towards the video store next door, he began to drag his foot, and draw his arm up to his side, like he had CP.
Just like the sweet boy I saw in the wheelchair earlier tonight, just like my sweet Suzie.
What a small sad man he was...acting like he was handicapped to amuse his sad, small friends.
